Now Seeking: Intermezzo Winds Conductor


Nextgen Youth Music is seeking a Conductor/Educator for Intermezzo Winds, a wind ensemble for instrumentalists in grades 5-8 meant to help prepare students through ensemble experience for playing confidently in more advanced wind bands and orchestral sections. 



The responsibilities of the conductor will include, but may not be limited to: 

Artistic responsibilities such as Conducting twice monthly rehearsals on Sunday afternoons from October to May (with a break for holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years) and a culminating concert in May. Choosing and preparing music for middle school wind ensemble (this includes ordering/purchasing sets of music, making copies and assigning parts. Coordinating a balance of instrumentation and assigning alternate parts as needed. Sending regular email updates to Intermezzo Winds families before or following each rehearsal and with concert information. Scheduling additional practice for those students who are interested in extra help and considering creative ways to instruct students (rehearsing in woodwind or brass choir, etc).

Administrative duties will include contacting Lancaster County middle and elementary school band directors as well as Lancaster County private instrumental instructors for recruitment of instrumental students. Staying updated with personal director and private instructor contacts (Nextgen administration also maintains contact lists). Setting up the rehearsal site with chairs, stands and percussion equipment. The coordination of rehearsal schedules with Intermezzo Winds coaches, and obtaining needed instruments, either by purchasing (NextGen budget) or borrowing from local schools or private instructors (percussion instruments, bass clarinet, etc.).
